Reaching Tomorrows Donors Today
Since 1979, Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, Davenport, Iowa, has been reaching out to young people in its service region. We believe that young people are the future caretakers of the blood supply and that donating blood is both a privilege and a responsibility. By encouraging an early understanding of blood, donation and the role of the community blood center, children’s fears are minimized and they are more likely to establish a pattern of support for the blood program as they enter adulthood.

Charlie's Heroes© is the first puppet show created by the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Through the eyes of puppet kids, Curtis and Maria, children will meet Charlie Corpuscle—the colorful puppet star—and his friends—Whitey White Cell, Paula Platelet and Penelope P. Plasma, as they journey through the human body explaining how blood works. This show targets children ages 3 to 8.

Bobby's Gift of Life©

Bobby's Gift of Life© tells the story of Bobby, a young boy who is hospitalized after being hit by a car. It conveys, in a non-threatening way, how vital blood is during an emergency and the role blood donors play in helping save lives. Charlie Corpuscle and friends make cameo appearances in the show. This show targets children ages 8 to 12.

Puppet Show Packages
Both original puppet shows include a portable stage, colorful backdrops, and an upbeat musical soundtrack to engage and involve youngsters. Each performance lasts about 15 minutes. Shows can be performed in classrooms, on stage for assemblies, as well as community health fairs, children’s festivals and summer day camp programs.
