(September 25, 2019 | Davenport, Iowa) – A new online tool for pre-donation screening will help donors save time by completing their Medical History Questionnaire online. Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) is rolling out “EarlyQ” in all blood collection operations this month. Donors are asked to complete the questionnaire in a private setting on the same day as their donation. Upon completing the questionnaire, the system will send an email with a QR code that can scanned when the donor arrives at their MVRBC Donor Center or mobile blood drive. (For detailed information and an instructional video, see www.bloodcenter.org/EarlyQ.)
“By using EarlyQ and answering their questions beforehand, donors will spend less time at their donation since they can skip right to staff reviewing their questionnaire,” said Pete Lux, Director, Donor Services. “We’re pleased we can now offer this tool to help make blood donation more efficient for our donors.”
FOUR STEPS TO USE EARLYQ
- For the best donation experience, MVRBC suggests scheduling an appointment at a Donor Center or mobile blood drive. Call (800) 747-5401, schedule online at www.bloodcenterimpact.org or via the IMPACT Mobile App (available for download at www.bloodcenter.org/app).
- Gather personal information, including current medications and recent travel history.
- Begin the questionnaire via the link at the bottom the EarlyQ information page (www.bloodcenter.org/EarlyQ). Donors are asked to complete the questionnaire independently and in a private setting after 12:00 a.m. (midnight) on the day of donation. If unsure or unable to answer a question, skip it by clicking NEXT. Blood Center staff will review these questions with donors at the time of donation.
- Provide your email address and check for a message containing a QR code the user can print or display on a smart phone at the time of donation. (Users may wish to take a screenshot of the code and save it to their phone’s photo library. (Please note: the code must be generated on the same day the donor gives blood.)
To thank donors for giving blood, MVRBC is providing all presenting donors with a voucher to redeem for a free T-shirt. For donations made through Oct. 6, the voucher is for the Blood Center’s Halloween donor T-shirt and for donations made from Oct. 7 through Nov. 10, the voucher can be redeemed for a “Hometown Pride” donor T-shirt featuring designs for donors in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
