Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) has been asked to help support blood inventory needs in Houston and the surrounding region following Hurricane Harvey. The storm is estimated by blood collectors in Texas to have cost more than 1000 donations due to cancelled blood drives and donors who are unable to make it to their appointments for blood donation. MVRBC will ship blood components to Texas on Monday, Aug. 28, and will need to schedule as many donors as possible to continue joining this national effort to support the blood supply in Texas.
Donations made during this critical time frame will ensure MVRBC’s ability to provide an adequate blood supply during and after the holiday weekend. Donors who register through Sept. 10 will be entered in MVRBC’s drawing for a vacation travel package and a voucher to redeem for an “I Bleed…” T-Shirt in the donor’s choice of five color combinations. Walk-ins are welcome, or to schedule an appointment, call MVRBC at (800) 747-5401 or schedule online at www.bloodcenterIMPACT.org.
Because of the critical need for donors, MVRBC has put in place a number of ways to recognize donors who come to give blood in the lead-up to Labor Day Weekend. All individuals who register to give blood at MVRBC Donor Centers or mobile blood drives through Sept. 10 will be automatically entered in the Blood Center’s monthly drawing for a vacation travel package. In addition, donors who come to mobile blood drives through Sept. 10 and Donor Centers through Sept. 17 will receive a voucher redeemable for an “I Bleed” T-Shirt in in a variety of color combinations (black and gold, cardinal and gold, orange and blue, purple and gold, blue and gray).
Amanda Hess, Director of Donor Relations, says the Labor Day promotion will help ensure an adequate blood supply for hospitals in our region. “We have an urgent need for donors right now. With the holiday weekend, we’ll miss out on a day’s worth of blood collection, but patient need at hospitals remains constant,” said Hess. “Donors are needed to ensure that area hospitals have life-saving blood for patients as we wrap up the busy summer season,” she added.
To thank those who support the blood supply this time of year, MVRBC has developed a “Save Our Summer” campaign featuring a number of special incentives, detailed below. (Learn more about our summer donor promotions at www.bloodcenter.org/summer.)
