A number of donors have asked us about their eligibility for blood donation after receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Volunteer blood and platelet donors who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and wish to donate may do so as long as they meet our usual donor criteria. Among the almost seven million people immunized with this vaccine in the US, there have been six cases of blood clotting problems recognized.

Donors must be well on the day of donation, pass donor history screening, the mini-physical examination, and laboratory testing. There is no deferral period after getting any of the vaccines currently used in the United States, including the Johnson & Johnson product.
