Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) is the exclusive provider of blood products and services to more than 110 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The 501(c)(3) not-for-profit blood center was established in 1974 and operates as Central Illinois Community Blood Center (Springfield, Illinois) and Community Blood Services of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana, Illinois).
Established in 1971 and based in Springfield, Illinois, Central Illinois Community Blood Center (CICBC), a not-for-profit organization, merged with MVRBC in 2010 and continues to serve the central Illinois community.
Established in 1972 and based in Urbana, Illinois, Community Blood Services of Illinois (CBSI), a not-for-profit organization, merged with MVRBC in 2011 and continues to serve the eastern Illinois community.
The Blood Center is based in Davenport, Iowa, where MVRBC’s testing, processing and primary distribution center handles more than 250,000 units of blood components each year. In addition to its Davenport headquarters, the Blood Center has regional distribution hubs in central Illinois (Peoria, IL and Springfield, IL), eastern Illinois (Urbana, IL); southeastern Iowa (Ottumwa, IA), the St. Louis region (Earth City, MO) and southern Wisconsin (Madison, WI).
From our locations, MVRBC collects blood at 19 fixed site donor centers and at more than 5,000 mobile blood drives held each year. The population of the Blood Center’s service region exceeds 4-million residents and donors give more than 180,000 donations each year.
