Ahead of this drive we got to connect with David Decker, General Manager over at Southeast Iowa Sports Center for an interview about why this drive is so important to him.

ImpactLife: Have you ever given blood?

David: Yes, I first started giving blood in the military, however after becoming TB positive I wasn't able to anymore. However, after talking to Maureen, she told me that was longer a determining factor. So, I'm happy I am able to contribute again for a great cause.

ImpactLife: When was the first time you donated blood?

David: It would've been while in basic training back in 2010.

ImpactLife: How did you learn about the importance of blood donation?

David: Being a soldier we are all made aware about how important it is, as having wounded people in a deployed location or even lack of blood at hospitals. It can be a determining factor of life and death.

ImpactLife: Have you ever received blood?

David: Yes I have, very fortunate for other donors.

ImpactLife: How does hosting a blood drive align with the mission of SE Iowa Sports?

David: Part of our mission is to enrich a quality of life and promote health and wellness.  In other words, saving lives equals peak wellness. Not only do donors feel good, but it boosts mental and community wellness too. It also teaches, so for those who do not give blood, they become more informed about their bodies. Lastly, we are not just a space for sports and games, we are a hub for full circle wellness, from fitness to community impact.

ImpactLife: What else does SE Iowa Sports do to serve the community?

David: We offer an array of activities within our facility, such as volleyball, basketball, pickleball, soccer, baseball/softball, and football. However, we will not just cut people off based on activities we don't offer. We want people to use this facility for any event they can imagine, and allow us to work with them to make their vision a reality.

ImpactLife: Anything else we should know about SE Iowa Sports Center?

We are always looking for creative events, and willing to adapt. Come check us out and see everything we offer from camps, clinics, leagues, and if you have a membership with us, you get discounts on all activities in our venue.
