Aryn Lloyd leads a busy, active lifestyle that includes running, biking, and keeping up with family and volunteer activities. And, she is a strong advocate for policies and funding in support of Breakthrough T1D and its mission to advance treatment options and progress towards a cure for type one diabetes.
Living with type one diabetes is a challenge, but it doesn't stop Aryn from taking part in the activities she enjoys and that are important to her, and that includes being a blood donor. (See our interview with Aryn, below.)
Individuals who use insulin to control blood sugar levels are generally eligible to give blood. Having type one diabetes is not itself a reason that an individual would be deferred from blood donation.

Good Giving: Opportunity to Give Financial Support
Blood donors have the opportunity to make a financial donation to nonprofit organizations such as Breakthrough T1D as part of the blood center's "Good Giving" program. After each donation, donors receive email instructions with information on ordering a "thank you" gift, which can be redeemed as a donation to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The amount of each contribution is based on donation frequency. For more information, see www.bloodcenter.org/donorforlife.
