About the Movie
The movie stars Joel Courtney as a young John O'Leary and William H. Macy as legendary Cardinals’ broadcaster Jack Buck, who befriended O’Leary while he was still in the hospital after the accident.
The movie depicts O'Leary's survival and healing after suffering burns over 100% of his body. The accident happened in 1987 when O’Leary was 9 years old, while playing in the garage at the family’s home in the St. Louis suburb of Town & Country.
The film is based on O’Leary’s bestselling memoir, “On Fire,” and is described as an emotional and faith-filled portrait of resilience as O'Leary not only battles to survive but ultimately discovers what it means to truly live. From frontline workers to family members and a supportive community, this film is a celebration of heroes.
From John O'Leary
“As a burn survivor, I know firsthand the life-saving power of donated blood,” said John O’Leary. “It was a gift from strangers that allowed me to fight for my life and ultimately to heal. That’s why I am so profoundly grateful for ImpactLife’s partnership in the release of ‘Soul on Fire.’ Their commitment not only fuels the health and recovery of countless patients, it also inspires all of us to step forward and make a difference. Together, through something as simple—and as heroic—as giving blood, we have the chance to ignite hope, save lives, and remind the world of what is possible when we choose to serve one another.”
