ImpactLife Good GivingBlood donors who supported the ImpactLife "Good Giving" promotion have provided a $6000 donation to Central Illinois Foodbank. Representatives of the foodbank provided a tour of the organization's distribution center for staff and donors from ImpactLife on Tuesday, May 9 and shared information on how Central Illinois Foodbank supports the charitable food system in Central Illinois.

Eastern Illinois Foodbank logoMore than 100,000 people in the foodbank's 21 county service region, including 1 in 6 children, don't have enough to eat. Central Illinois Foodbank serves as the distribution hub for food pantries and hunger-relief partners in 21 counties of central and southern Illinois and estimates the donation from ImpactLife will help provide more than 36,000 meals that will be distributed through its network of partner agencies.

During the holiday season, ImpactLife blood donors were given a voucher to redeem for their choice of an electronic gift card or to donate the same amount to support local foodbanks in the blood center’s service region. More than 2500 donors directed their support to foodbanks for a total of $42,185 now being distributed to organizations that serve communities of the ImpactLife service region. (Additional check presentations and tours are scheduled with regional foodbanks across the blood center's service region.)

As a member of Feeding America, Central Illinois Foodbank joins more than 200 foodbanks across the United States in filling the meal gap. Central Illinois Foodbank is the primary food source for food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other programs working to feed its neighbors who face food insecurity. The Foodbank acquires millions of pounds of food and grocery product through purchase or donation and distributes it across a network of more than 141 feeding programs in the region. (Learn more at www.centralilfoodbank.org.)
