Meeting the Need: KSHE Summer Blood Drive comes at the right time
St. Louis region hosts two-day blood drive – among nation’s largest – July 9 and 10

(July 5, 2021 | Earth City, Missouri) – One of the nation’s largest blood drives is set to take place July 9 and 10 in the St. Louis region and comes at just the right time for the region’s blood supply. With a projection of more than 2000 donations given at locations across the St. Louis region, the KSHE 95 Summer Blood Drive is poised to help blood inventories recover from critically low levels (see p. 2 for complete schedule). To schedule an appointment for donation, call (800) 747-5401 or schedule online at www.bloodcenter.org/kshe, or via the Blood Center's mobile app (www.bloodcenter.org/app).

ImpactLife issues call for urgent action on blood supply

ImpactLife recently issued an appeal for donors to help reverse a decline in donations that began with Memorial Day weekend. For much of June, ImpactLife collected approximately 85% of its weekly collection goal, leaving the provider of blood components to more than 120 hospitals with just a one- to three-day supply of most blood components.

The blood center seeks to collect approximately 3600 donations every week to support a five- to seven-day supply of all blood components. In the weeks following Memorial Day, however, collections have been near 3000 donations per week, on average, due to blood drive cancellations that began with the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the impact of summer holidays.

Donors to receive KSHE Summer Blood Drive T-shirts, entry in drawing for KSHE 95 Birthday Party tickets

Everyone who comes to give blood will receive the limited-edition KSHE Summer Blood Drive T-shirt (right) and automatic entry into a drawing for 9 pairs of tickets to the KSHE 95 Birthday Party featuring Alice Cooper with special guest Ace Frehley at Saint Louis Music Park on October 2nd. Additionally, all donors who register to give blood will be entered in ImpactLife’s weekly drawing for a $500 gift card.

The KSHE Summer Blood Drive was first held in 1984 to help support the blood supply during this critical time of year. Since that time, the KSHE listening audience has become a reliable base of support for the blood supply during the summer and holiday season, with nearly 5000 listeners participating in the July and December blood drives every year.
