One of the nation’s largest blood drives is set to take place July 8 and 9 in the St. Louis region, coming at just the right time for the region’s blood supply. The KSHE 95 Summer Blood Drive will help blood inventories recover from critically low levels by providing more than 2000 donations given at locations across the St. Louis region. To schedule an appointment for donation, call (800) 747-5401 or schedule online at www.bloodcenter.org/KSHE, or via the ImpactLife mobile app (www.bloodcenter.org/app).

ImpactLife issues call for urgent action on blood supply
To provide optimally for the 124 hospitals the blood center serves, ImpactLife seeks to maintain a five-day supply of all blood components. But with the donation rate consistently low through the month of June, followed by the Fourth of July holiday, type O-negative red blood cells are at just a one-day supply and type O-positive is at just a 1.5-day supply. Other blood types have consistently been at a 2- to 4-day supply since early June.

Blood and platelet donations are used to support ongoing, routine use at local hospitals while a reserve is needed in case of a spike in demand due to large scale emergency or mass trauma. Such events may require activation of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (www.bloodcenter.org/BERC), a national group of blood providers ImpactLife joined earlier this year, pledging mutual aid for blood providers across the U.S. in times of crisis.

Donors to receive KSHE Summer Blood Drive T-shirts, entry in drawing for KSHE 55th Birthday Party tickets
KSHE Summer blood drive T-shirtEveryone who comes to give blood will receive the limited-edition KSHE Summer Blood Drive T-shirt and automatic entry in a drawing for nine pairs of tickets to the KSHE 55th Birthday Party featuring Sammy Hagar & The Circle w/ George Thorogood & The Destroyers (one winner for a pair of tickets chosen from each blood drive location).

The KSHE Summer Blood Drive was first held in 1984 to help support the blood supply during this critical time of year. Since that time, the KSHE listening audience has become a reliable base of support for the blood supply during the summer and holiday season, with nearly 5000 listeners participating in the July and December blood drives every year.
