donate blood this Winter

Winter brings added challenges for the blood supply. Cold weather, school breaks, holiday travel and busy schedules all reduce the number of donations, but patients’ needs remain.
When you give blood this winter, you fill a critical gap and stand by your neighbors when it matters most.

FAQs

  • Can we donate blood in the winter?

We would love to see you at our blood donation centers and mobile drives this winter! Winter can be one of the hardest seasons for blood banks because of busy schedules, travel plans, and less school blood drives. Donating blood in the winter strengthens our communities across our service region and throughout the great United States.

  • Why should I give blood this winter?

    1. Despite busy schedules, patients in our communities are always in need of blood. When you give during winter months, you help to fight the shortages that come about from donation lulls.

    2. Though many people are eligible to donate, a small percentage take part in blood donation. When you give blood this winter, you help increase those percentages and make a lasting impact on your community and beyond.

    3. Studies have shown that donating blood can actually help to reduce the risk of heart attack by thinning blood. So not only does giving blood help others in our communities, it also has positive impacts on the body.

    4. Blood is vital for life. We cannot manufacture blood or blood products. Your donation goes to work to make a difference in the lives of those around you.

  • How can I make the biggest impact with blood donation this winter?

    Donate Blood 2x this Winter

You can donate whole blood every 56 days, platelets every 7 days, and plasma every 28 days. Committing to donating blood twice this winter is one more way you help keep the blood supply stable. Every donation you make keeps hospitals stocked and patients cared for.

Blood Types Needed

Many variables can impact our blood inventories such as weather, holidays or tragic events.  Every day, patients who need blood are in crisis and you can help by volunteering to donate.  Less than 10% of the population gives blood, so donors that give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs. Book an appointment today!
