Summer is an especially challenging time of year to maintain a stable blood supply. Life gets in the way: Vacations, school breaks, and busy schedules lead to fewer donations, even as the need for blood transfusions remains constant.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP

FAQs

  • Can we donate blood in the summer?

We would love to see you at our blood donation centers and mobile drives this summer! Summer can be one of the hardest seasons for blood banks because of busy schedules, travel plans, and less school blood drives. Donating blood in the summer strengthens our communities across our service region and throughout the great United States.

  • Why should I give blood this summer?

    1. Despite busy schedules, patients in our communities are always in need of blood. When you give during busy summer months, you help to fight the shortages that come about from donation lulls.

    2. Though many people are eligible to donate, a small percentage take part in blood donation. When you give blood this summer, you help increase those percentages and make a lasting impact on your community and beyond.

    3. Studies have shown that donating blood can actually help to reduce the risk of heart attack by thinning blood. So not only does giving blood help others in our communities, it also has positive impacts on the body.

    4. Blood is vital for life. We cannot manufacture blood or blood products. Your donation goes to work to make a difference in the lives of those around you.

  • How can I make the biggest impact this summer?

    Donate Blood 2x this Summer

You can donate whole blood every 56 days, platelets every 7 days, and plasma every 28 days. Committing to donating blood twice this summer is one more way you help keep the blood supply stable. Every donation you make keeps hospitals stocked and patients cared for.

Blood Types Needed

Many variables can impact our blood inventories such as weather, holidays or tragic events.  Every day, patients who need blood are in crisis and you can help by volunteering to donate.  Less than 10% of the population gives blood, so donors that give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs. Book an appointment today!
