Thirty-nine percent of the population has O-Positive blood. Because more people have O+ blood than any other blood type, hospitals transfuse this type more often than other blood types. With a large percentage of the population being O+, red blood cells and platelets are what is needed from these donors. In the case of an emergency, doctors often do not have time to determine the blood type of the patient and will depend on type O blood for trauma patients and accident victims.
