Over the past three weeks, the Blood Center has been forced to cancel dozens of blood drives (68, and counting) leading to a loss of more than 2200 donations due to record cold tempatures, snow, and ice. If you are able to safely travel to donate blood this week, please do. To find a donation location near you, call (800) 747-5401, visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org, or use the Blood Center’s IMPACT mobile app.
With another winter storm on the way to portions of our service region, we will continue to provide information on the impact of winter weather at www.bloodcenter.org/weather.
Formerly known as the Gallon Grad program, our Donor for Life IMPACT Award program now includes additional options for achieving this recognition at graduation. You can refer donors and host your own blood drive along with donating personally! Click here for more information.
As part of a wellness initiative, the blood center encourages donors to consider taking iron supplements (18-38 mg of ferrous gluconate) daily for eight weeks to help replace the iron lost in a whole blood donation. It is available over the counter and in multivitamins with iron (read the label). This amount has no more side effects than a sugar pill. For more information, visit www.bloodcenter.org/iron.
Through LifeCorps, we connect high school students with our Marketing and Donor Relations to reach new and existing blood donors through recruitment strategies and special events timed to increase donations during the summer months. For more information and to apply, visit our Life Corps page!
Help coordinate a summer blood drive challenge where local high schools go head-to-head to win bragging rights and other great prizes! Please contact your local Donor Relations Consultant to learn more!
