Milestones Made Possible by Donors
Five years in remission and five years of blood drives is a milestone worth celebrating! After battling pediatric cancer, Olivia and her family started hosting the Open Arms for Olivia blood drive, bringing their friends and family together to help other patients like Olivia.
Last Thursday, Olivia welcomed donors to our Davenport center. Thirty-six people opened their arms for Olivia this year!
Alongside Olivia, her mom, Tracy, rolled up her sleeve to give. Blood donors make moments like this possible, giving families more milestones to celebrate and memories to make.
Watch Tracy talk about Olivia’s journey in 2021 and the impact blood donors can make on families like theirs, and know we're putting good into the world every single day.
A Gathering of Legends: Remembering the CICBC
Some reunions pick up right where they left off. That was certainly the case when former Central Illinois Community Blood Center (CICBC) employees in Springfield gathered at Legends last week to reconnect, share memories, and celebrate the friendships that have endured through our evolution into ImpactLife.
"It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends, including many familiar faces we had not seen in years," said Tara Matheson, Director, Donor Recruitment and Engagement.
The group included (from left): Paula Clarke, Jill Craner, Bev Wells, Calvin Stambaugh, Tom Lucchesi, Rita Stambaugh, Sharon Lucchesi, Marla Herron, John Speeks, Jenny Steffen, Jeremiah Ray, Lori Klespitz, Penny Brown, Judy Ingram, Rachel Benedict, Jennifer Hendricks, Paul Hendricks, Tara Matheson, Lindsay Manci, Carla Potts, Lori Kirbach, Denise Parbs , Jen Reinbolt, Linda Evoy, Deb Mast, Glenna Ray and Sue Thompson.
Hosting Civic Duty: Election Day 2026
We elect to save lives!
We saw almost 900 voters pass through the doors of our headquarters on Election Day, when we hosted a polling place for Bettendorf, Iowa's Precinct B42 (Ward 4). It made for a busy day in our lobby as voters cast their ballots from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Why get involved with elections? For one, the Scott County Auditor's office asked for our help. Voting is held at community centers, libraries, and places of worship across our region. We're in a position to help, with ample space and parking, and there's a benefit to showing engaged citizens (voters!) our location.
Research suggests there's a connection between blood donation and voting, which makes sense because they're both acts of civic participation that contribute to the well-being of our community. The ballot box helps shape our future, and blood donation helps save lives today. We hope to see voters from our local precinct back again soon as volunteer donors who will elect, as our sticker says, to save lives with us in the future!
